I will be featuring the characters of my books in blog posts. I hope to post weekly, but at a minimum, will post monthly. Up first is Genny!
Genny is the main female character in A Heart’s Journey and The Journey Home. I’ve had a few people tell me they didn’t like her and felt that she was spoiled and immature. I just smiled. That was what I was going for. Genny lost her parents when she was five. Her grandparents gained custody of her and her older brother. Her grandparents, mostly her grandmother, overcompensated for the trauma Genny had suffered, and she became stunted emotionally. I’m happy to report that changes by the second book.
I based some of Genny’s traits off of myself and my daughter.
- Genny is tall (so am I)
- She has a dimple in her chin (my daughter has a dimple in her chin)
- Genny is a habitual eye-roller
- She’s not much of a cook
- She doesn’t wear makeup (I rarely do)
- Genny loves the peacefulness of the beach (me too!)
- She struggles with her faith (I think most of us have at one time or another)
When I started writing the first book, I found a photo on Shutterstock that closely represented what Genny looked like in my head. As a reader, I like to imagine what a character looks like. I don’t want to spoil that for anyone, so I’ve put a link below if you’d like to see Genny’s likeness.
Do you have any questions or comments about Genny’s character?
